The reunion 2005 is starting to take form. Here is the first newsflash regarding the reunion. More details to follow!
2005 O'Dochartaigh Clann Reunion
O'Dochartaigh clann members from around the world will gather in Ireland, July 1 through July 10, 2005. Hundreds of clansmen will descend on the Inishowen Peninsula, Co. Donegal, Ireland, and Derry, Co. Derry, UK to visit their ancestral homeland.
"We are organizing an extensive schedule of tours and attractions for the reunion," Eva Doherty Gremmert said. "We are building on the success of four previous reunions held in Ireland since 1985." Doherty Gremmert is a member of the O'Dochartaigh Clann Association Executive Committee, assigned as the Reunion Coordinator.
Advertising and promotion of the event will begin soon in Ireland, the UK, the USA, Australia and Canada specifically. Other countries will be added as contacts with clann groups emerge around the world.
"Both established Clann websites, Daniel Doherty's site at www.odochartaigh.org and Brian Bakers site www.dohertyclann.homestead.com , have offered to carry official information, schedules, registration and other important references," Doherty Gremmert said. "Using this powerful tool, the organizing committee intends to attract more participants than ever before."
Research and initial planning has begun on: the opening and closing events; Inishowen bus tours; walking tours of Derry; a Medieval banquet; Foyle boat cruise; as well as show-casing local talented musicians, dancers, and storytellers. The selected dates will allow visitors to do self-directed touring on either the beginning or end of their trip.
Members of the Reunion Organizing Committee include many individuals who have diligently served the clann over the past 20 years. Decide to make this your "once-in-a-lifetime trip" or come again and join us in 2005.
